Thank you for your interest in becoming a featured maker at Electric City Works! The Works (opening October 2019) will be a retail marketspace hub for up and coming businesses. We have a number of spaces available to rent on a 6 or 12 month basis to help you to gain exposure and grow your business!
What do we offer?
Exposure: At the Works, our makers are encouraged to work collaboratively to actively promote and feature their peers. The Works will also advertise and market aggressively in all forms of media. We are located downtown Peterborough in a 5000 square foot building at 200 Charlotte Street with a front-row seat to tons of amazing events! Weekly Farmers Markets are on our doorstep, along with Peterborough Pulse and the new Louis Street urban park coming soon! We also have an established clientele who are ready to check out what you’ve been working on! You’ll also receive your own signage on the exterior of the building!
Experience: Electric City Works was started by Adam and Tara Genge, owners of Chalk Therapy. We are committed to helping your business grow and succeed just as ours has. Our goal is to give you the experience of running a retail business, providing knowledge and guidance when you need it, without the overhead of leasing a full-blown storefront.
No Overhead: By using a collaborative approach to leasing the Electric City Works marketspace, we are able to cut down on many of the costs of opening a retail business (such as POS systems, signage, security, advertising, staff, property taxes, heat and hydro costs, Costco Memberships..). Your expenses are locked-in while your sales are recorded and paid out to you monthly (along with an itemized inventory report of what sold).
Space: Interested in running workshops here? You got it! We have the room to do it! We’ll have a monthly calendar that we can book your business in to run an awesome workshop for your clientele! Chairs, tables and ambiance is provided!
Variety: We offer 3 different types of leasing options. At The Works, you can lease a 10′ x 12′ space for you to setup your own ‘shop’. If you don’t feel like taking on an entire space, you can rent a display stand for just your products to display in the marketplace. Alternately, we also would love to have your products placed throughout the market to help promote all the cool stuff that you do!
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for fun, vibrant, innovative makers, creatives, artisans and businesses that want to push forward into a retail space. Leather-workers, glass artists, jewellery designers, carpenters, visual artists…if you consider what you do an ‘art’ and are ready to take the next step with your business, then we’d love to hear from you!
You can use the space as you see fit: Either as a full work-space, allowing clients and customers to experience your trade/craftsmanship where they can watch and engage with you (This would be beneficial for custom items, made to order). Or you may want to simply have the space be your storefront that you maintain on a weekly basis. No matter what you decide, it’s important that your presence is felt!
What’s it going to cost?
Spaces range from $500-800 per month along with 10% commission deducted/8% on 12 month leases. We also have 6ft by 3ft stands available for $100/month with 10% commission deducted/8% on 12 month leases, and general product display is $75/month with 10% commission deducted/8% on 12 month leases (Products would be placed throughout the Works at Management’s discretion). Note: HST is additional, on top of the monthly rates.
